On Various Sources of Uncertainty in Modeling Suspicion and How to Treat Them

چکیده
Among the several meanings that trust may take, ‘trust about correct information’ is strictly related to some information source properties such as sincerity and cooperativity (Demolombe, in press) and to the information receiver’s arising of suspicion, about the information source and about the communicated data. To defend themself from deception, fraud and other forms of trust-violating conditions, multiagent systems may adopt at least two approaches: they may establish norms and rules, and sanctions in case these are violated, or may set up mechanisms to simulate arising of suspicion in interactions. The two approaches are not alternative (as humans know very well), and each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage of establishing norms and controls rather than trying to detect deception is that ‘expectation of truth’ may be assumed as a default condition, and interaction may therefore be simplified. Keeping an almost permanent attitude of suspicion, on the contrary, risks to delay message interpretation beyond the acceptable: in addition, discovery of deception requires a rather deep knowledge of the mental state of the message Sender (from the Receiver), which violates the ‘open world’ hypothesis that is typical of multiagent systems.

Considering Uncertainty in Modeling Historical Knowledge
Simplifying and structuring qualitatively complex knowledge, quantifying it in a certain way to make it reusable and easily accessible are all aspects that are not new to historians. Computer science is currently approaching a solution to some of these problems, or at least making it easier to work with historical data. In this paper, we propose a historical knowledge representation model takin...
متن کاملOptimal energy management of microgrid in day-ahead and intra-day markets using a copula-based uncertainty modeling method
Recently, economic and environmental problems have created a strong attitude toward utilizing renewable energy sources (RESs). Nevertheless, uncertainty of wind and solar power leads to a more complicated energy management (EM) of RESs in microgrids. This paper models and solves the EM problem of microgrid from the generation point of view. To do this, mathematical formulation of a grid- connec...
متن کاملWater Quality Modeling in Persian Gulf Considering Thermal Pollution Sources of Industrial Plants
Numerical modeling is carried out to investigate the spreading pattern of industrial wastewater released from coastal refineries and power plant into thePersian Gulf. The pollutant sources due to the wastewater outfall of the coastal industrial plants are completely considered in the model. The effects of sources are inspected on the adjacent marine environment. The numerical model is developed...

Application of conceptual hydrological models is an important issue in watersheds for researchers, especially in arid and semi-arid regions. The hydrological behaviors are complicated in such watersheds and their calibration is more difficult. In this article, the conceptual and semi-distributed SWAT model is used for a semi-arid Nishabour watershed with 9350 km2 area. Streamflow simulation is ...
متن کاملScenario based technique applied to photovoltaic sources uncertainty
There is an increasing need to forecast power generated by photovoltaic sources in day-ahead power system operation. The electrical energy generated by these renewable sources is an uncertain variable and depends on solar irradiance, which is out of control and depends on climate conditions. The stochastic programming based on various scenarios is an efficient way to deal with such uncertaintie...
